Shelida's Story
From Crisis to Calling
When a sudden financial crisis and the threat of eviction put her two children at risk of homelessness, Shelida reached out to Harmony CDC’s Whole & Empowered program for help. Staff provided immediate relief by covering her past-due rent and supplying a full Thanksgiving meal for her family, but this was only the first step. The true transformation began as Shelida leaned into the program’s holistic coaching, counseling, and intensive case management.
Over the course of the 12-month program, Shelida used Harmony’s financial stewardship tools to eliminate her credit card debt and lay the foundation for her future. That trajectory shifted her from the brink of crisis to successful entrepreneurship, where she eventually launched her own business. Today, Shelida’s journey has come full circle: she has returned to Harmony as a volunteer, dedicated to empowering the next generation of women as they navigate their own paths to transformation.
